Meet Naoko Sakaeda

NRC postdoctoral associate Naoko Sakaeda began working at the Physical Sciences Laboratory this past August. As part of the Atmosphere-Ocean Processes Team, she collaborates with mentor George Kiladis and others to understand the various aspects of the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) and convectively coupled equatorial waves. Naoko received her Bachelor's degree in atmospheric sciences at University of Washington, Seattle and PhD in atmospheric sciences at University at Albany, SUNY. Her research interests include the MJO, equatorial waves, and tropical-extratropical interactions.

Naoko was born in Hong Kong and raised in Thailand, Indonesia and Japan, which led to her interest in tropical meteorology and interactions between the tropical and extratropical atmosphere. In her spare time, she enjoys both indoor and outdoor activities such as crafting arts, running, and playing tennis.
