Daily Summary August 9, 2002, DOY = 221
The ship departed the working area off the mouth of Chesapeake Bay at 0700 to escort the Dive/Survey Barge Wotan to the Monitor turret ceremony. At 1130 the ship sampled the 21 cannon salute with aerosol light scattering values (green) of 700 Mm-1. Flow was reversed in the PMEL mast from 1330-1730 while the ship was in the James River. The ship departed the ceremony at 1600 and left Chesapeake Bay at 1830. Winds were from the NE at 2-6 m/s. Ozone concentrations reached 75 ppb late in the afternoon. Light scattering by aerosols was approximately 15 Mm-1. Several ship plumes were sampled in the bay and after departing the bay.
