ESRL's parent office, the Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research (OAR), recently announced its 2017 award recipients, including:
OAR Employee of the Year in Leadership
Gary Wick (ESRL/PSD): "For outstanding leadership related to the NOAA Sensing Hazards with Operational Unmanned Technology (SHOUT) Program." Read more...
OAR EEO/Diversity Awards
Individual Award — Melinda Marquis (ESRL/GSD): "For leading the development of the ESRL Diversity and Inclusion Plan in coordination with the EEO/Diversity Office. Melinda was also instrumental in bringing 3 graduate and post docs to GSD, one each from the National Research Council, Howard University and Colorado University, respectively. She also coordinated visits to Howard University in 2016 and, in September 2017, the University of Texas El Paso."
Laboratory of the Year — The Earth System Research Laboratory: "For the combined efforts of all ESRL divisions: in allocating dedicated resources to EEO, divisional employee completion rates for FY17 Sexual Harassment Training, completing the ESRL Diversity and Inclusion Plan, contributing articles to the March and July (Special Student Edition) EEO Newsletter, creatively using various programs to establish a wide array of special internship positions, demonstrable work in community and educational outreach, and increased involvement in tribal engagement activities."
The awardees will be honored at a ceremony on November 15 in Silver Spring, MD.
