Kevin Kelleher selected as new director of Global Systems Division

The Earth System Research Laboratory (ESRL) welcomes Kevin Kelleher who was recently selected as the new director of the Global Systems Division (GSD).
Kevin's background makes him uniquely qualified to lead GSD. Prior joining the division as acting director last year, Kevin spent 26 years as Chief Information Officer at the National Severe Stormes Laboratory (NSSL) in Norman, Oklahoma. During that time, he served a 15-month detail at NOAA in Silver Spring establishing the CIO position for the Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research, returning to Norman in 1998. He took on the additional role of NSSL Deputy Director in January 2001.
In 2004, Kevin received the NOAA Technology Transfer Award for his role in making high-resolution radar data available to private industry over the Internet. He received the NOAA Bronze Medal for his outstanding work leading high performance networking enhancements for the NOAA/Norman Weather Partners and for fostering collaboration between the University of Oklahoma and the NOAA Weather Partners with the NOAA Advanced Research Network.
Kevin holds two Master’s degrees from the University of Oklahoma, in meteorology and computer science, and a Bachelor of Science in meteorology and mathematics from the State University of New York. He is also a graduate of the Harvard Kennedy School of Government Senior Executive Fellow Program.
