The primary goal of the Stratospheric Tracers of Atmospheric Transport (STRAT) campaign was to determine global-scale transport rates and future atmospheric distributions of emissions from a proposed fleet of high-altitude civilian aircraft. Transport rates determined from measured latitude and altitude profiles of gases with a wide range of lifetimes helped to refine atmospheric models used to predict the environmental impacts of aircraft emissions. ACATS-IV measured 10 different tracers with lifetimes ranging from 3 to 120 years.

NASA has a web site presenting some other details of the STRAT mission.
