Dr. Brittany Bloodhart, a researcher from Colorado State University in the Atmospheric Science department, is conducting a research study on workers' experiences, opinions, and observations of academic work experiences. She is working with colleagues from Colorado State University's Department of Atmospheric Science, Dr. Emily Fischer and Dr. Kristen Rasmussen, on the Perceptions and Experiences of the Workplace project to look at the experiences of those working on academic field campaigns.

Perceptions and Experiences of the Workplace

Regardless of your role on the project, it is important for everyone involved with FIREX-AQ to participate. We ask that you take part in a series of online surveys. Participation in each survey will take approximately 15 minutes. Your participation in this research is voluntary. If you decide to participate in the study, you may withdraw your consent and stop participation at any time without penalty. Your responses will only be used for research purposes, will be completely confidential, and will not be shared with anyone on the FIREX-AQ project team, in compliance with federal regulations and Colorado State University's Internal Review Board requirements for research with human subjects.

We will be collecting contact information, including your name and email address, for the sole purpose of being able to contact you again to complete future surveys. When we report and share the data with others, we will combine the data from all participants, and only report the data in aggregate. We will keep your data confidential; your name and data will be kept in separate files that will only be linked by a randomly-generated ID number. All files containing personal and non-identified data will be kept in password-protected computer files, stored on a Colorado State University server. Your data will ONLY be accessible to Dr. Brittany Bloodhart at CSU. No one on the field project team will have access to information about whether you completed the survey, or the answers you provided to any question(s). While there are no direct benefits to you, we hope to gain more knowledge on safe, appropriate behavior at research field sites, and to develop a best-practices guide to help researchers working on future field campaigns.

This study will include sensitive questions about behaviors that are illegal and/or highly personal. Regardless of how you answer these questions, your information will be kept confidential unless required to be reported by law. You have the option to answer this portion of the survey anonymously, so that the data will never be able to be traced to you personally, or to not answer it at all. It is not possible to identify all potential risks in research procedures, but the researcher(s) have taken reasonable safeguards to minimize any known and potential (but unknown) risks.

FIREX-AQ leadership believes this effort is very worthwhile, and is very invested in promoting safe and inclusive field experiences – we would like to see 100% participation in the survey from those deployed to the field across all platforms. If you are a member the FIREX-AQ project email list, you will receive your link to take the survey and subsequent reminders. Please email Dr. Bloodhart a request to participate if you did not receive a survey link for any reason.
