Daily Summary August 8, 2002, DOY = 220
The ship transited from Delaware Bay to Chesapeake Bay overnight. NE to N winds were sufficiently light that the relative wind remained forward of the beam. NMHC concentrations were low throughout most of the night with slightly elevated concentrations in the airmass sampled after 0800. NO3 concentrations were high but there was little N2O5. SO2 concentrations remained around 1ppb. CN concentrations were steady at around 6000 cc-1. There were rapid changes in RH (>10% in a few minutes) at 0800 and 1100 UTC which corresponded to rapid changes in NMHC concentrations. Brown arrived at the mouth of Chesapeake Bay at 1100 UTC to begin sampling ship plumes. A track was made out and around the Chesapeake Bay Lighthouse for comparison of radiation measurements. Brown held station from 1500 through the remainder of the day south of the main deep water channel into the bay. Approximately 10 freighters passed during the day.
