DISCOVER-AQ Houston 2013 TOPAZ Data

August 30, 2013

< Previous Day | Archive Calendar | Next Day >

Daily Summary:

August 30. Friday.
TOPAZ data were collected from about 0830 to 1415 CDT. Partly cloudy. Cu med with bases as low as 500 m AGL. During the first hour, low ozone values were observed at the surface and in the lowest few hundred meters AGL. Winds above 800 m AGL were very light and variable overnight (as indicated by the nearby LaPorte wind profiler), so the moderately high O3 values observed with TOPAZ above that altitude very likely represent the remnants of the polluted residual layer observed the evening before. Ozone increased through the early afternoon and became fairly well mixed after 1100 CDT. The initial O3 increase may be partly due to fumigation of the ozone layer aloft.
