ESRL/PSD Seminar Series

Hyrdometeorological Research Activities in the NCAR Research Applications Laboratory

Dr. Dave Gochis
NCAR, Boulder, CO

Abstract

This informal seminar will provide an overview of several ongoing hydrometeorological research activities taking place within the NCAR Research Applications Laboratory. Presently, there are several observational and modeling efforts taking place aiming to improve understanding and prediction of rainfall and snowfall as well as coupled landatmosphere interactions over the central Rocky Mountain region. These projects include, high resolution modeling of wintertime precipitation and snowpack of the Rocky Mountain headwaters region, research into the use of polarimetric radar products for precipitation estimation and forecasting in complex terrain, flash flood and water resources modeling in Colorado and projects focusing on the impacts of land-atmosphere interactions due to forest dieback. The projects highlighted are presumed to have synergy with ongoing and planned NOAA Hydrometeorology Testbed (HMT) activities and discussion on potential collaborations is expected.
