Tropical Dynamics and Climate (TDC)

As part of the restructuring of the NOAA Boulder Laboratories, the Tropical Dynamics and Climate (TDC) program of the Aeronomy Laboratory has moved to the Earth System Research Laboratory, Physical Sciences Division.

Mission Statement

Tropical Dynamics and Climate research focuses on an improved understanding of tropical circulation systems and their impact on global climate. Wind profilers developed within the group provide continuous observations of atmospheric winds in the tropical Pacific. They provide important observations of large-scale tropical circulations and their intra-seasonal, seasonal and interannual variability. They also yield important information about precipitating cloud systems. Climate diagnostics research utilizing Analysis/Reanalysis products provides a large scale context for interpreting station data. Observations are the raw materialfor analyses. Observations provide a means for validation of the analyses when they are witheld from the analyses.
