This paper discusses the use of the Highly Reflective Cloud (HRC) data sets in large-scale tropical rainfall estimation over the global tropics. The method used is a linear regression linking monthly rainfall measured at several hundred stations to the number of days per month when HRC were recorded over the corresponding station locations.
