Doppler Velocity
Doppler Velocity determines how fast the particles are moving and whether the particles are moving up or down. The particles are moving down in the warm-colored areas (red, orange), and moving up in the cool-colored areas (blue, green). Because the doppler velocity shows us up and down motion, we can detect things like convection or waves in the air. In this image, the air is moving up and down due to a gravity wave. This is similar to throwing a rock in a pond and watching the water make ripples - gravity waves are "ripples" in the air.
