NOAA/ESRL/PSD HFIP GFS EnKF T574 Tropical Cyclone Experiments

This page provides access to ensemble forecasts using the National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration
(NOAA) National Center for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) Global Forecast
System (GFS) model, initialized with an experimental Ensemble Kalman Filter (EnKF) data
assimilation system. The data assimilation system utilizes an 80 member ensemble (run at
T574 resolution) to initialize a T574 control forecast (initialized from the ensemble mean
analysis), and a 20 member ensemble forecast run at T254 resolution. Forecasts are run out
to 7 days (4 times daily; 0000, 0600, 1200, and 1800 UTC) with 6-hourly output for the 2011
Atlantic hurricane season, and are made possible by support from the NOAA Hurricane Forecast
Improvement Program
(HFIP).

Latest model run valid 1200 UTC September 16, 2011.

WARNING: These forecast are experimental and not intended to replace the official
forecasts issued by the National Hurricane Center and/or the National Weather Service.
