Calculation Method:
Values are obtained using the HURDAT dataset at the NHC. Counts of hurricanes in a month are based on the first day of the hurricane. The category is determined by using the maximum wind speed for the storm. Landfalling hurricanes are specified in the hurdat dataset.

Time Coverage: 1950 to present
