Radar Hourly Wind Files Produced By POP [v4.1]

FILE NAMING CONVENTION:

SSSYYJJJ.HHw

where
       SSS = SiteID
       YY  = Year
       JJJ = Julian Day
       HH  = Hour

Date and time are in UTC and represent the start time of the average.

DATA DESCRIPTION:

Line  1:  BLANK LINE

Line  2:  " SSS" "additional info. (optional)"  where SSS = 3 letter station ID

Line  3:  " WINDS    rev 4.1"  (rev number will change if file format changes)

Line  4:  [for station] latitude (N); longitude (W); elevation (m)

Line  5:  date; begin time of consensus; UT offset (minutes) 
             [format "  yy mm dd hh mm ss ut_offset"]

Line  6:  consensus averaging time (minutes); number of beams; number of range gates

Line  7:  [for each beam - format "num:tot (window) "]
             number of records required to make consensus (num)
             total number of records (tot)
             the consensus window size (m/s) 

Line  8:  number of coherant integrations  [oblique and vertical]
          number of spectral averages  [oblique and vertical]
          pulse width (ns)  [oblique and vertical]
          inner pulse period (ms)  [oblique and vertical]

Line  9:  full-scale Doppler value (m/s)  [oblique,  vertical]
          vertical correction applied to obliques? 0=no, 1=yes
          delay to first gate (ns)  [oblique, vertical]
          number of gates  [oblique, vertical]
          spacing of gates (ns)   [oblique, vertical]

Line 10:  [for each beam] azimuth; elevation (degrees)
             (if elevation > 90 then it is in degrees*100, 999 missing beams)

Line 11:  Labels for columns of data that follow

Line 12:  Start of data

          	Height above ground (km)
          	Wind speed (m/s)
                Wind direction (deg E of N from)
                Resultant-wind quality control number (0=valid; 2=estimated; 7=supect; 9=invalid)
          	[for each beam] Radial velocity (m/s) (positive toward radar; 9999. missing data)
          	[for each beam] Number of records that made consensus
          	[for each beam] Average SNR (dB) of records in consensus
                [for each beam] Radial quality control number (valid <=10; >10 suspect <=100; invalid >100)

NOTE: Beam order is determined by the azimuth & elevation values in line 10.
