Table of linear correlations of atmospheric/ocean time series
Correlation Time seriesThe time series used are described on the web page http://www.esrl.noaa.gov/psd/climateindices/. They are monthly time series that that range anywhere between 1948 and the present. Some time series have values for only a portion of that time period. Some time series are not defined for certain seasons.
Correlation MethodCorrelations were calculated for all possible years. Some pairs of correlation values will therefore have a different number of years that went into the calculation. A value was calculated for each month, separately and then, for all months (though NOT annually averaged). Calculated correlations are linear. Possible relationships may exist if the variables are in quadrature even if the correlation coefficient is 0. You should plot the time series versus each other to see what the relationship is. Where data is not defined, values are listed as missing "***".
