"Alpine" ponds

 

The "Alpine" pond in the animation was one of many such ponds near the ridge site. This aerial photograph shows the 10 m long "Alpine" pond and its environs. On July 16 we surveyed these ponds to determine their elevation above sea level (blue bar) and their depth (red bar). The tallest blue bar represents an elevation of 70 cm. There is a weak trend that "high" ponds are shallow and "low" ponds are deep. The "Alpine" pond is in the center of the photograph, with the thermistor string for the Ridge just above it (small orange box).
