TIME NOTES NIKON VIDEO KT-19
10:47:50 Off the deck, brilliantly clear
10:47:30 switched on Kt-19 switched on
10:54:36 line begins, 6200', gr sp=107kn  switched on 7:27 min elapsed Polycorder 1 switched on
ponds have high spatial variability, some floes show a lot but some do not
no clouds great visibility - small pans from 8.5 - 11.5
then over some huge aggregate floes
10:59:20 6 nm / 4 min till A
lots floes with melt, plenty w/ no melt though
11:03:47 A: start turn, just past lg N-S lead system 16:35 elapsed time Poly 1 switched off at beginning of turn
11:03:50 big floe at end of line with lots of puddles
11:04:25 A: turn complete 16:57 elapsed time Poly 1 switched on after turn complete
Huge floe at 14.5 nm - ground speed 100 kt
this leg between lg leads running N-S, over lg floe
11:12:14 B: start turn 25:01 elapsed time Poly 1 switched off at beginning of turn
11:12:59 B: turn complete Poly 1 switched on after turn complete
FY floes no melt, MY floes lots of melt ponds
11:15:15 Group of FY floes with no ponds - still snow covered
11:21:02 13nm before C, 6000' altitude
In general MY seems more ponded than FY
ground speed 99kt
11:23:00 light clouds below
11:24:00 8 nm / 5 min before C
11:26:00 approx. where thin clouds below begin to obscure photos
11:26:09 4.5nm from end of line-photos should be OK but Kt19 will be affected
11:26:55 5 nm / 3 min before C
11:28:45 C: start turn 41:35 elapsed time Poly 1 switched off at beginning of turn
11:29:24 Patchy thin clouds underneath - Alt. 6000' - ground speed 82kt
11:29:30 end turn 42:15 elapsed time Poly 1 switched on after turn complete
11:30:23 CLEAR BELOW- last cloud cover for flt
11:32:00 Polycorder 1 full
11:32:45 Polycorder 2 activated
11:33:06 21.2nm - out of clouds
long linear leads - many floes with light or no ponding
11:34:00 19 nm to go until the turn, Alt. 6100'
11:44:01 5.8nm large floe
11:44:15 5 nm before D
11:47:48 D: start turn 1:00:35 elapsed time Poly 2 switched off at beginning of turn
11:48:28 D: turn complete Poly 2 switched on after turn complete
Alt 6000' ground speed 87kt
11:48:40 12.8 nm / 8 min before turn E
thin ice easy to spot- looks dark
11:55:04 3 nm / 2 min before turn E
11:56:49 E: start turn 1:09:30 elapsed time Poly 2 switched off at beginning of turn
11:57:37 E: end turn Poly 2 switched on after turn complete
Ice quite broken up and ponded
Large lead system - FY ice breaking into smaller floes - OW approx. isotropic in the horizontal
12:03:00 3nm / 1min40sec before ship
12:04:53 F: end of line, OVER SHIP interval. Off 1:18:00 elapsed time Poly 2 switched off
12:12:30 Begin low pass (nominal 1000') just east of the ship over the camp Poly 2 switched back on
12:12:32 1150', 2 mi NE of ship OVER LG LEAD
12:15:20 Over large lead south of ship 1:28:09 elapsed time
12:15:50 End of low level pass Poly 2 switched off
12:18-19 PM over station Seattle
approaching helo deck switched off Kt-19 switched off
12:20:00 back on helo deck
GENERAL IMPRESSIONS & INFORMATION
There were some melt ponds with frozen surfaces
that were light blue.  Lots of open leads and
deformation of the leads.
More  ponds than on the last two flights
Between D and E the ice began with relatively little ponding but pond density increased along the line
Between D and E FY ice was relatively pond free
