Helo July 16

Helo albedo flight of 16 July 1998

Sky conditions were CO-SDNVSky was very uniform, though low ceiling precluded multiple passes at different altitudes.

Intercalibration on the helo deck: scans 0 - 4

Scan 5 was a test in the air

GPS: Lat. Long. Heading

SHIP 0.7 nm south of point A

A 78o 09.8N 166o 05.3W 90 The pattern was a box 3 nm on each side

B 78o 09.8N 165o 50.3W 0

C 78o 12.8N 165o 50.3W 270

D 78o 12.8N 166o 05.3W 180

First did the albedo line at 100 feet and 30 kt sampling as fast as possible. We traveled from 0 to 200. Scans 6 -18

Next did a box pattern (Specified above)

Altitude was 100 feet, speed 60 kt, scan rate every 10 seconds

Leg 1: east : scans 19-37

Leg 2: north: scans 38-50

Leg 3: west: 51-64

Leg 4: south 65-83 - this went over Seattle and Quebec at the end

Continued heading south

Scans 84-94 Over big lead sampled as rapidly as possible to get lead values for calibration

Take minimum value and set equal to 0.1 to provide a check on intercalibration while in the air

Scans 95, 96, 97

Further south every 10 sec

Scans 98-103

Went out to the middle of the albedo line and sampled going up in altitude

Intercalibration on the flight deck upward-looking on helo, downward looking held upwards off to the side

Scans 104-120

Time taken here to take some site photos

14:33:52 Helo landed on ship

Downlooking video pretty bad here- flew the backup camera, but it also apparently has tracking problems now
