Dr. Sandy MacDonald selected as AMS president-elect

The Earth System Research Laboratory is pleased to announce that its Director, Dr. Alexander (Sandy) MacDonald has been selected as the American Meteorological Society’' (AMS) president-elect. AMS is the nation's principal scientific society promoting the advancement of atmospheric and related sciences, technologies, applications, and services. MacDonald, who concurrently serves as chief science advisor to NOAA’s Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research, kicks off his duties as president-elect this week during the 94th Annual Meeting of the AMS. He will take office as president of the organization in January 2015. Then he will serve two years as president and one year as immediate past president. MacDonald's commitment to serve the AMS community comes as no surprise. A long-time member of the AMS, he also holds the honor of being an AMS Fellow, and has held the position of AMS councilor on the Executive Committee.
