The Systems Development Division provides technical expertise in support of the laboratory's development of real-time meteorological workstations, with a current focus on the development of the WFO-Advanced system. Major components of the workstation include the interactive display and user interface, database management, on-demand and scheduled applications, and real-time communications with the FSL Central Facility. Division staff produce the basic system design of the workstation and implement many or all aspects of the design, employ advanced software development techniques, and regularly evaluate new workstation concepts for possible operational utility. The techniques or systems developed within the division are used in forecasting applications by many domestic and international agencies, such as the U.S. Air Force, Federal Aviation Administration, National Weather Service, and Taiwan Central Weather Bureau.
