MOU With Korean Meteorological Administration

The International Division of NOAA's Forecast Systems Laboratory is undertaking scientific and technical activities with the Meteorological Research Institute (METRI) of the Korean Meteorological Administration. Under a Memorandum of Understanding for Technical Cooperation, the two parties will collaborate on the analysis and design of a 'nowcasting' system for weather forecasting. The work will be carried out by researchers from FSL and KMA. Visiting scientists from KMA will reside at FSL in Boulder, Colorado, for periods up to six months.

This activity supports one of FSL's primary missions - to transfer new technology and research findings in atmospheric, oceanic and hydrologic sciences to the user communities. Now that the KMA project has started, FSL will host 5 Korean researchers during the first part of 2001. The overall program is expected to last for several years.
