Abstract

I am the Science Planning lead for NMFS and am responsible for communicating, advocating and defending NMFS science to NOAA, DoC, OMB and Congress. Over the past few months, I have been visiting CSD as part of LCDP. It is with that perspective that I approached the task I was given by the CSD Director to acquire a comprehensive view of the CSD science portfolio both from looking at the documents borne out of the recent CSD Laboratory Review (which I attended) and through formal interviews and hallway discussions with many of you. I intend to capture these findings in writing to help build a new strategic plan for CSD.

In this informal seminar, I will present a summary of my findings, discuss strategic planning (and why you should care) and, provide some food for thought when discussing CSD's science enterprise among peers and stakeholders. Afterwards, the floor will be open to discuss and answer any questions related to this relevant topic.

An open discussion with CSD Director David Fahey will follow.
