Alternative Work Arrangements in the Event of Pandemic Outbreak

In the event we experience a pandemic influenza outbreak, this division will follow a comprehensive preparedness plan developed by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM). To assist us in making sure we are able to fulfill our mission, while at the same time, preparing and protecting our workforce, OPM provides policies on leave, pay, hiring, alternative work arrangements and other critical human resources issues which agencies can use should a pandemic influenza outbreak occur:

CSD Staff may consider alternative work arrangements, given these outlined procedures for Federal and CIRES employees:

Federal (as per Workforce Management Office - Telework)

  1. Contact your Supervisor and agree on the terms and objectives for telework.
  2. Review the Orientation Module for the NOAA Telework Program and NOAA Telework Policy PDF file
  3. Complete the NOAA Telework Application, Agreement & Safety Checklist PDF file and email to your Supervisor.
  4. Remote access of division resources (file servers, printers, etc.) requires use of VPN software. If you do not already have a VPN account, or VPN software installed, contact CNRG (303-497-5817, cnrg@noaa.gov)

CIRES (as per CIRES Policy on Alternative Work Schedules PDF file)

  1. Contact your CIRES Supervisor, and Science Advisor (if applicable), and agree on the terms and objectives of an alternative work schedule.
  2. Email a formal request to CIRES Human Relations (303-492-1168, Karen.Dempsey@colorado.edu)
    • clearly state the alternative work schedule requested and justification for it
    • copy your CIRES Supervisor and Science Advisor (they will independently forward their approval of the alternative work schedule)
  3. The CIRES Director will review the request and notify involved persons of approval or questions.
  4. Remote access of division resources (file servers, printers, etc.) requires use of VPN software. If you do not already have a VPN account, or VPN software installed, contact CNRG (303-497-5817, cnrg@noaa.gov)
