CSD is pleased to announce that Dave Fahey has been selected as a Senior Technical (ST) scientist in NOAA and he has signed on recently. Only 14 others in all of NOAA currently share this distinction.

STs are NOAA's equivalent of endowed research professors in major universities with no administrative responsibilities – the highest level achievable by a university researcher. In NOAA, they are the most senior research position and the highest level of scientific and technological talent.

Dave has been a scientist in CSD (and formerly the Aeronomy Laboratory) since beginning his NRC postdoc here in 1979. He has headed the Atmospheric Composition and Chemical Processes Group of CSD since 2008. He has had project leadership and principal investigator roles in numerous interagency field missions spanning three decades, most recently involving unmanned aircraft systems. Dave has earned several honors over the years, including the AMS Henry G. Houghton Award, a DOC Silver Medal, NOAA Bronze Medals, the Albritton communication award of NOAA, and several awards for outstanding scientific publications. He is a Fellow of the AGU, as well as a Fellow of CIRES. The ST position recognizes Dave's many scientific accomplishments, his leadership in research and assessment activities, and his superb skills in communicating science to the atmospheric science community, stakeholders, decision-makers, and the public.
