Single Particle Soot Photometer SP2 and HD-SP2 The SP2 is an aerosol instrument that quantifies, for individual particles, the refractory black carbon (rBC) mass content, the particle optical size, and detects and presence of materials internally mixed with the rBC. It is an extremely sensitive instrument that is also highly insensitive to changes in the morphology and mixing state of the rBC. A dry and humidified SP2 have been paired to create the Humidified-Dual SP2 (HD-SP2), which can quantify water uptake by the materials internally mixed with rBC.
